I have started keeping this journal as witness: when a line is about a particular thing, I link it, and that thing’s own note gathers every time I met it.

Saturday got away from me in a good way. I ran into my neighbor, Desmond, while taking out the trash, and we struck up a conversation in his driveway that ran most of an hour. He explained how he used to find property corners from old deeds.

  • Technology Connections

    • Watched his engine video over coffee. “Suck, squeeze, bang, blow.” I will never again forget the four strokes, which is a little embarrassing.
  • Jimmy Akin’s Mysterious World / The Kentucky Meat Shower

    • Had it on while I did the dishes. In 1876 meat fell from a clear sky over a strip of Bath County, Kentucky, and two men tasted it and guessed lamb or venison. The best explanation is a flock of startled vultures, which is somehow worse than a miracle.
    • What stays with me is the tasting. Something impossible lands in your yard and a man’s first instinct is to eat it. We are curious creatures.
