Person

People in OTS are anyone who acts on the world: thinkers, writers, friends, parents, characters in a book that matters to me. The type is open in scope and closed in form. If a note is about a who, it is a Person.

Person notes carry the standard fields plus the things that distinguish a who from anything else: alternate names, dates, nationality, the roles they have held, and a small set of relational links (spouses, children, parents). Roles are free-form because they want to be. Aquinas is a Theologian and a Dominican friar and a professor at the University of Paris all at once, and the system should not force a choice.

The Person subtypes used in this corpus are Theologian and Philosopher. Both inherit the Person schema; the subtype is a label, nothing more.

Most of the Person notes here are figures in the philosophy-of-religion debate: medieval scholastics, early modern skeptics, contemporary analytic philosophers. The journal mentions a few people the narrator knows by initial — J., T., M. — but they do not yet have notes of their own here. They might, in the user’s actual vault. The schema does not care.

The page you are on is itself a Person note, with type: [[Person]] pointing at itself. Every other Person in the corpus has the same type field, which is why the backlinks panel on the right is the index. The list is the system, working.
