Saturday. The bins were still out from yesterday, and I finally went to fetch them.

• Desmond

  • Said hello over the fence while I was dragging the bins out. He has a beagle that is clearly older than it looks.
  • I realized I have lived here two years and not learned his name until today.

• Jimmy Akin’s Mysterious World

  • Listened while I cleaned out the garage: Michael Malloy, a man in 1933 New York whom a ring of insurance schemers spent weeks trying to kill with antifreeze, bad sardines and a night in the snow, and could not.
  • I laughed, then felt bad about laughing. They did get him in the end.
