Replacing the rotted step on my front porch. I had thought I could buy a board and have it done in an afternoon. Once I looked underneath, I wanted to measure the supports before I bought anything.

Keeping the measurements here, where I can find them again. The step is the part I notice every day; the wood holding it up is the part I need to get right.

2026-06-13 1 Desmond / Porch Restoration He came over to look at the rotted step on my porch and ended up redoing the measurements twice with a tape he keeps in his back pocket. He would not take anything for it. I left a jar of the jam on his step and felt I had not repaid it.
